Last year the EC published the amended Directive on the energy performance of buildings and energy efficiency in which article 8 deals with electromobility. Departement Omgeving – the Flemish Department of Environment and Spatial Development – aims to gather the necessary insights and technical specifications to fully transpose the obligations of the Directive to a revised decree. Combining expertise, analysis and stakeholder input, SuReal defines a technical proposition for the charging infrastructure for EVs in and around buildings in that regard.

Barry Callebaut – BREEAM Outstanding certification

WDP needed support to achieve an energy-neutral and sustainable new distribution center with offices for Barry Callebaut. For this building of 60.000m² BREEAM is used as a roadmap through the design of the project. SuReal is assisting the design team with detailed studies and guides the team in achieving a BREEAM Outstanding certification.

West8 / KAAN / POLO / Robbrecht&Daem – Design competitions

SuReal is currently working on several architectural and DBFM competitions all over the country.

We take up the role of “Sustainability Project Manager” guiding the entire team with aspects such as GRO, VIPA, Duurzaamheidsmeter, BREEAM. But also performing comfort, energy, LCA and water studies for several of the design options. More news on the outcome of these projects will follow soon.

The Victoria Regina Tower opened in 1978 as the Belgian office of the American IT pioneer IBM. The building has 22 floors, with 25,000 square metres of office space. The new owners are redeveloping the building while respecting the existing architecture. SuReal has been appointed to carry out due diligence on the technical concept and to assist the design team in the area of circular economy.

CORES Development – Due diligence / energy concept

Cores needed support in the development and operation of the energy concept for a new project with over 100 residential units. SuReal conducts the due diligence around the financial aspects of the energy system and the related possibilities for ESCO-services. Furthermore, SuReal is performing energy concept studies for two other CORES residential projects of +200 dwellings each.

Group Van Vooren – Indoor air quality

In the South of Antwerp, critical levels of VOC are reached in certain dwellings due to soil pollution. As a result, the indoor air quality in the concerned buildings is severely reduced and there’s an increased risk of health issues. SuReal investigates and proposes a set of technical measures to improve indoor air quality.





Aquafin Jury member for a design contest

The labs, offices and storage rooms of the Aquafin plant in Alost need a thorough update. Therefore Aquafin organised a design contest. SuReal is a member of the jury with a special focus on topics such as the circular economy, the energy efficiency and financial feasibility of the different designs.

SuReal performed technical due diligence for a residential project in Alost and a mixed project (offices&residential) in Knokke. The designs were improved by optimising the self-consumption of PV-panels and by adapting window specs (glazing type and glazing-percentage).
